What Grandmothers Do
They don’t rush. They don’t
scold. They wait with their
hands in the dough or their
voices in a hymn or their backs
in a rocking chair, until you
are ready to listen.
They do not forget
what it was like to
not know. So they teach
without telling, hold
without gripping, love
without needing anything back.
