The Flower in the Field
There were too many
things blooming
in the yard
that summer.
The sunset held them all
in gold,
but I couldn’t see them
until I focused
on one—
a single Black-eyed Susan,
still as a hush,
reminding me:
start small,
and the rest
will come into view.
