I am new day
I am sudden sunlight blinding in the busy intersection
I am old woman out early and headed home from market
I am deep red cherry tomatoes scattering over blacktop
I am honking horns and screaming brakes
I am red squirrel, stopped, up on haunches
I am silence, pause—the forever and ever pause
I Am, oh my God! I Am… oh
my God!
I am old man asleep, bedsheets rubbing sores
I am the hours before they come, the hours in which he wakes, the hours as he wonders who… who it was
bringing food… who would change these bedsheets
I am death and life and forgetting, remembering, loving, losing, and …beginning
