Poem segment 1
VI. Staying Present
So who is speaking?
Not one fixed identity
standing behind the curtain.
A process.
Internal weather.
Memory.
Habit.
Attention.
The pressure of another presence
changing the shape of response.
None of this removes responsibility.
If anything
it deepens it.
Because now the task
is not finding one pure voice
but staying awake
inside the movement.
Listening carefully enough
to know when fear is speaking
in the costume of certainty.
Knowing when performance
has replaced contact.
Knowing when a sentence
still feels alive
after the first emotion passes.
Authenticity becomes less like extraction
and more like participation.
Not possessing a voice forever.
Returning to it
again and again
through attention.
Like tuning an instrument
before each song begins.
