South of Town
horses are running
with a wildness wider
than the rancher's fences
beneath their flanks
weeds are swaying tall as my own
forgetfulness
unmarked roads
overgrown with saplings
are exactly
where we left them
thirty years ago
everything has become
something
we never could have guessed
we looked down
stepped off
marked and measured
we hemmed in only
ourselves
