After the Meeting
The room is empty now,
but the chairs remain—
three gathered close
as if still listening,
one turned slightly aside,
another left facing the window.
No one planned this pattern,
but it tells a kind of story:
who leaned in,
who drifted away,
who kept an eye on the clock.
Tomorrow they’ll sit again,
different hands pulling
the circle wide or small.
We’ll talk about projects,
deadlines, next steps—
but beneath the words
something else arranges itself,
quiet as dust settling,
deciding who belongs
where.
And yet, sometimes,
someone moves a chair—
just a few inches closer—
and the whole room changes,
a little more space
for light to fall between us.
