Of Dreams In Which I Am Reuben
1
Our silence had become so brittle
it actually fractured as we
bent it toward a whisper.
2
We, all of us
except Joseph, fled the
island
liberating ourselves
with safety-pins as we cleared
each inflatable chamber of the
suspension bridge we'd blown up.
3
Our toes had not
yet touched home's
dry sand
before visions began
to sigh and squeal
from every puncture.
4
Sleepers lean
a dead ear
toward dreams;
dreamers sleep alone
and no one
rests
