Scarcity
The shelves
were bare:
no toilet paper,
no meat,
not even the usual
boxes of pasta.
I wanted to hoard,
like a squirrel
before snow.
But then
my neighbor said,
We only have two rolls left.
And I opened the cabinet,
took out three,
walked them over.
Somewhere in that walk,
a feeling
settled in my chest:
not fear,
but enough.
