Not Like Her
My aunt sends cards
for every birthday.
She always remembers.
I don’t.
I start them,
but they sit
half-written
on the kitchen table
until the date
has passed.

Still,
I care.
I care fiercely.
So I find
my way
to say it—
not with cards,
but with small
unexpected
words.
I am not her.
But I am someone.
