BLUE MOUNTAIN
No one ever asked
if I wanted the mountain.
It arrived,
bluish and cold,
pressing its silence
against the edge
of every window.
Evenings,
I traced its outline
with my breath.
Sometimes it would vanish
under fog,
but always return
at sunrise,
just before the birds
began their small warnings.
