Eldorado
Fanning out from the
revolving lamp
red, green, yellow, blue
colors are shifting
long shadows thrown
against the blank TV the
otherwise white
floral chairs and pillows
the walls
where grandmother
displays her collections:
small bells
and saucers
and china dogs on glass
shelves
of the cabinet
A tree of tinsel glitters
while on the stove
the oil boils her
fried pies to a
light brown: hours
spent
crimping edges
of the dough
around the thick apple filling
perfect fork marks
like a zipper
restraining a waning
crescent moon
There's no need for winter
in south Arkansas
these pines
will see no snow
Christmas glitters
in grandma's earrings shines upon
her bright
red lipstick
and the polished handles
of her copperware
