A Dig Near Black Mesa, 1984
...the bones of this feeling
splayed against stone---
this ancient cliff
with its
shards and teeth and spearheads,
the sunrise flaring
a carpet
across the sky, blood clot
red
in the arteries of this
appendage---
the arm of this mountain
that held a village,
a people,
a culture
but, nevertheless,
a sudden and unchangeable graveyard.
